  • New Model for free download - Apollo 11 Eagle Moon Lander
The Eagle Moon Lander was designed and built by Grumman Aircraft Engineering at a cost of around $350 million. Ungainly as it looked, the LEM (Lunar Excursion Module - its official title) was the most reliable component of the Apollo system, the only one never to have suffered a major failure.

Flown into history by Neil Armstrong - the first man to set foot on the moon, the LEM was surprisingly fragile. A strong finger poke would be enough to puncture its skin, which in places was as thin as 2 layers of aluminum foil.

If you have the "right stuff", fly this super scale model of the Eagle which features gold foil coverings, rocket sound, full 6-degrees of freedom controls, 1/6th moon gravity physics, and more.

  • New Model for free download - Hitler's Stealth Fighter (Horten Ho 229)
The Horten Ho 229 was the favorite of Hitler's Luftwaffe chief, Hermann Goering, calling it the only aircraft to come close to his "1000,1000,1000" requirements - meaning an aircraft that could carry 1000kg of bombs a distance of 1000km at a speed of 1000km/hr.

Although the Horten was never completed, it was so advanced for its time that a reconstruction of it was recently done. Apart from its super-efficient flying-wing configuration, ejection seat, and braking parachute, the Horten was to feature a composite skin which was impregnated with charcoal - the first radar-absorbent "stealth" design in history.

The plane that "might have changed the war" is presented by PRE-Flight as a super scale model with highly detailed weapons and moveable controls. An unusual sister model (included) is a variant with stealthy transparent skin which makes internal details (like landing gear and cannons) visible.

See this web page to download the free model.

  • New Model for free download - Republic P-47 Thunderbolt
The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt (the "Jug" - short for Juggernaut, according to the British) was superlative in many ways. It was the largest, heaviest, and most expensive piston-powered fighter fighter in history. Its 8 50-caliber machine guns made it especially adept against light ground targets, and its 2,500-pound bomb load was effective against heavy tanks.

A fully-loaded Jug weighed up to 8 tons and its very size and weight posed operational problems for the Allies. Nevertheless, the so-called "dinosaur" was well-liked by pilots not just because of its robustness, but also because of conveniences like air-conditioning and spacious interior. One unique feature of the Jug was the aft turbosupercharger which operated at over 21,000 rpm and gave the 18-cylinder Pratt & Whitney R-2800 engine over 2,500 hp - resulting in a maximum speed of over 430mph.

This super scale PRE-Flight model of the "Jug" has highly detailed weapons and moveable controls. As usual with PRE-Flight models, the Thunderbolt can be "painted" to reproduce many different paint jobs.

See this web page to download the free model.

  • New Model for free download - Messerschmitt Me 262
The Messerschmitt Me 262 Schwalbe ("Swallow") was the world's first operational jet fighter. Its maximum speed of over 900kph and tremendous rate of climb of 1200 m/min made it a deadly opponent for even the fastest Allied aircraft. Fortunately, it was available only in small numbers - not enough to change the outcome of World War II.

The Me 262 was powered by twin Junkers Jumo Turbojets of 1,980 lbs each and armed with 4 30mm cannons. It also packed 24 5mm rockets and up to 1000 kg of bombs. Hitler first envisioned the Me 262 as a "revenge bomber" but it was found that its best role was as an interceptor - claiming over 500 Allied kills in its short but devastating career.

This super scale PRE-Flight model of the Me 262 has highly detailed weapons and moveable controls. As usual with PRE-Flight models, the Me 262 can be "painted" to reproduce many different paint jobs.

  • New Model for free download - Gotha G.V
As WWI unfolded, the concept of the "battle plane" - a heavily-armed fighter - materialized in the German Gotha series. This proved no match to the nimble and more lightly-armed fighters and the Gotha was quickly and successfully converted to bomber duty. This was a very timely move, as the lumbering Zeppellins were proving vulnerable to Allied defences.

The Gotha was a twin-engined, pusher design, medium bomber and was well-able to defend itself (armed with 2-3 machine guns), as well as deliver a decent bombload to a range of up to 840km. One unique aspect of the Gotha was an innovative "gun tunnel" which allowed the rear machine gun to protect from an attack from below.

This super scale PRE-Flight model of the Gotha has highly detailed weapons and moveable controls as well as a very-detailed cockpit and wooden propellers. The control linkages are external to the fuselage, in line with the design conventions of the day. As usual with PRE-Flight models, the Gotha can be "painted" to reproduce many different paint jobs.

This model is for PRE-Flight version 2.10 and higher.

See this web page to download the free model.

  • New Model for free download - Ju 87 Stuka.
The Junkers Ju 87 Stuka (from German Sturzkampfflugzeug, "dive bomber") was designed from the beginning, as a dive bomber and this role it performed brilliantly. It was capable of very precise bombing - diving up to 90-degree angles then automatically pulling out of the dive after bomb-release. This automatic feature was required as pulling from the 600kph-plus dive usually blacked-out the pilot.

The Stuka was a true "terror" weapon and was equipped with a specially designed siren (nicknamed the "Jericho Trumpet") which, combined with the normal scream of the BMW engine, produced the characteristic and (for surviving victims) unforgettable sound preceeding the usual deadly, pinpoint-precision bomb explosion.

This super scale PRE-Flight model of the Stuka has highly detailed weapons and moveable controls. As usual with PRE-Flight models, the Stuka can be "painted" to reproduce many different paint jobs as the Stuka found service in almost all fronts.

This model is for PRE-Flight version 2.10 and higher.

  • New Model for free download - MQ-9 Reaper.
The General Atomics MQ-9 Reaper is truly the deadliest Radio-Control (RC) aircraft ever made. This Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) can carry a payload of 1,700kg and has a maximum endurance of 42 hrs (with external tanks) making it a truly effective attack and surveilance craft. RC'ers will recognize the single-piece, flexible main landing gear which is so common in smaller, less lethal RC airplanes because of its simplicity.

The Reaper is gaining wide acceptance in homeland security duties of several nations. It is reportedly to be used as a deterrent against the recent activity of pirates due to its very long loiter time. This is partly due to its ability for autonomous flight and the fact that several shifts of pilots can fly it remotely in a single mission.

This download is actually 2 models in one: a 1/4th scale model and the full-sized Reaper with 20-meter wing span. The super scale PRE-Flight models of the Reaper features super-high detail, Paveway laser-guided bombs, accurate operating landing gear, moveable control surfaces, and even a rotating "eyeball" camera. These models can be "painted" to reproduce the ever-growing number of Reaper variants in several countries.

This model is for PRE-Flight version 2.10 and higher.

  • New Model for free download - F4U Corsair.
The Chance Vought F4U Corsair is the longest production run of any piston-powered fighter in US history. First flown in 1942, the Corsair was not initially popular due to its unsuitability for carrier landings, earning it the name "bent wing widow-maker" due to numerous landing incidents. However, its superior fighting performance earned it the Japanese nickname of "Whistling Death", for the noise made by airflow through the wing root-mounted oil cooler air intakes.

The specifications of the Corsair was indeed formidable. The R-2800 Double Wasp radial engine was supercharged to produce over 2000 horsepower at 20,000 ft altitude. Armament was 6 50-caliber machine guns making the Corsair effective against Japanese fighters - averaging an incredible 11-to-1 kill ratio.

This super scale PRE-Flight model of the Corsair is composed of almost 120,000 polygons - making it one of the most realistic models available. Total model size is over 17MB (8.8MB zipped). It has realistic operating landing gear and moveable controls. This model can be "painted" to reproduce any of the Corsairs of the 7 countries and 2 major conflicts where it found service.

This model is for PRE-Flight version 2.10 and higher.

  • New Model for free download - F-4 Phantom.
The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II is the most numerous American supersonic military aircraft ever. It also holds the record for the longest continuous production (24 years) for a fighter. When first flown in 1960, it had advanced pulse-doppler radar and made extensive use of titanium in its airframe - the first time in any jet fighter.

Despite its size and weight, the Phantom had a top speed of 2.23 and can climb 41,000 ft per minute. In the period of 1959-1962, the Phantom set speed and altitude records which were not broken until the advent of the F-15 in 1975. This performance was one of the factors that convinced 11 countries to adopt the Phantom as its front line fighter (7 countries still have it it use today).

This super scale PRE-Flight model of the Phantom has operating landing gear, afterburning jets, moveable controls (including stabilator), and operating landing hook. This model is in standard US Navy livery but can be "painted" to reproduce any of the Phantoms of the 11 countries where it found service.

This model is for PRE-Flight version 2.10 and higher.

  • New Model for free download - Mitsubishi Zero.
The Mitsubishi Zero was hugely feared in the beginning of World War II with its appearance in the attack at Pearl Harbor. It appeared superior in every way to the US warplanes - maneuverability, speed, endurance and firepower. It was only after discovering its Achilles' heel - lack of armor - that the US forces were able to keep Japan from total air superiority over the Pacific theater.

In 1929, Mitsubishi's chief designer, Jiro Horikoshi, created the most advanced fighter of the time out of a then-secret Japanese aluminum alloy to achieve the lightest possible airframe. Unfortunately for the Zero, this also meant almost no armor and no self-sealing fuel tanks.

This detailed, super scale PRE-Flight model of the deadly Zero has operating control surfaces and landing gear.

  • New Model for free download - Ford Trimotor.
The design of the Ford Trimotor certainly proves that they didn't think much of aerodynamics in 1925. Its all-metal corrugated skin was all about strength and low weight, resulting in a rugged design able to carry up to nine passengers plus pilot, co-pilot and stewardess.

Ford's aircraft, like his autos and tractors, was inexpensive and reliable and formed the basis for the early transcontinental airliners. It was part of many exploratory and pioneering flights - even appearing in an Indiana Jones movie.

This hugely detailed, super scale PRE-Flight model of the Trimotor has operating control surfaces, period external control wires, and unique corrugated aluminum skin.

  • New Model for free download - F-104 Starfighter.
Called the "missle with a man in it", the Lockheed F-104 Starfighter was one of the more extreme jet fighter designs which adopted a minimalist architechture- fitting the smallest possible airframe around one of the most powerful engines available in the 1950's. The result was a plane that was more starship than jet fighter.

To lessen drag the wings were made so thin that its leading edge was sharp enough to warrant protectors as they posed a hazard to the ground crew. The aileron hydraulic cylinders had to be only one inch thick to fit in the wings. The fuselage was carefully designed to cut drag and result in excellent climb rate, speed, and acceleration.

This super scale PRE-Flight model of the Starfighter has operating landing gear and afterburning jet.

This model is for PRE-Flight version 2.10 and higher.

Helicopter builder Sikorsky built the Sea King in 1957, beginning a long career as a submarine hunter-killer, then diversifying into search and rescue, as well as executive transport. Designated the SH-3, the Sea King was designed for shipboard operation with folding rotor blades, as well as amphibious operation. Weapons capability was equally diverse, from torpedoes and missiles, to sonobouys for sub hunting.

The Sea King was always deployed as the first aicraft in the air and the last to land as a plane guard and pilot recovery vehicle. It is now famously known as Marine One when the US President is actually aboard.

This super scale PRE-Flight model of the Sea King has a five-bladed rotor, operating landing gear, and Presidential Marine One livery.

This model is for PRE-Flight version 2.10 and higher.

  • New PRE-Flight Version 3.17 - free software upgrade.
Download this free patch to upgrade your full version of PRE-Flight to version 3.17.

Version 3.17 addresses the problem that some Transmitters have when the signal level is higher than expected by the PRE-Flight USB Interface. This may result in "jittery" channels or the controller is not detected. This upgrade autodetects this situation and adjusts the input to avoid the problem.

This update will work for PRE-Flight version 2.70 and higher.

Please note that due to hardware requirements, users of version 2.70 to 2.99 who use the microphone interface will require the PRE-Flight USB Interface to continue using their existing microphone-based cables on version 3.00 and higher.

The PRE-Flight USB Interface is provided at factory cost (plus postage and handling) - see this link to order the PRE-Flight USB Interface.

See this web page to download the free patch.

  • New Model for free download - General Dynamics F-111.
The F-111 was designed in an era where "cost was not an issue" - resulting in an aircraft featuring pioneering and expensive technologies like variable-geometry wings, afterburning turbofan engines and terrain-following radar. So advanced was the F-111 that it inspired the fictional aircraft in the "Thunderbirds" series as well as real Soviet swing-wing designs.

The design philosophy of the 1960's was overwhelming speed and power (as opposed to the current philosophy of stealth and cost effectiveness), hence the F-111's Mach 2.5 plus speed and nuclear capability was coupled with long range to meet the requirements of both USAF and Navy.

This super scale PRE-Flight model of the F-111 has variable-geometry swing-wings, operating landing gear, and twin afterburning jets.

This model is for PRE-Flight version 2.10 and higher.

  • New Model for free download - Fokker Dr.1 Triplane.
Easily the most famous of all World War I planes, the Fokker Dreidecker (triplane), was designed by Reinhold Platz and built by Fokker-Flugzeugwerke as a response to the success of the British Sopwith Triplane. Used to deadly effect by Manfred von Richthofen (aka "The Red Baron"), the plane gained notoriety beyond what was actually a very frail and unstable aircraft.

The secret of the Triplane's performance in combat was its powerful elevator and rudder. The gyroscopic effect from the rotary engine enabled the tiny plane to make right turns and dives faster than any enemy fighters. Although finally made obsolete by the higher speeds of later planes, the Triplane probably marks the highest point in fighter maneuverability.

This super scale PRE-Flight model of the Triplane has moveable control surfaces, a realistic Oberursel rotary engine, and highly detailed weaponry.

This model is for PRE-Flight version 2.10 and higher.

  • New Model for free download - Fokker Eindecker.
Designed by Dutch engineer Anthony Fokker, the Eindecker or "monoplane" in English, was the first plane to be fitted with a gun/propeller synchronizer gear which allowed its machine gun to fire thru the propeller arc. So advanced was this feature that it started the "Fokker Scourge" where the Allied planes became "Fokker Fodder" for the early German Aces.

Although the Eindecker would probably not pass any current aircraft standards, it was the very first "true fighter" aircraft - the less advanced aircraft it preyed on were merely scouts armed with conventional hand-held firearms. It was used to great effect by a number of German luminaries like Boelcke and Immelmann, and became a true Terror of the Skies above the World War I warscape.

This super scale PRE-Flight model of the Eindecker has moveable control surfaces and a realistic Oberursel rotary engine (in which the cylinders rotated with the prop - resulting in a difficult airplane to master).

This model is for PRE-Flight version 2.10 and higher.

  • New Model for free download - Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress.
Although the Boeing B-17 was not the most capable bomber in terms of bomb load and performance, it was the darling of the bomber air crews due to its legendary resistance to battle damage. The B-17 bristled with defensive guns - much to the crews' delight - earning it the title "Flying Fortress".

From its first flight in 1935, despite a streak of tragic luck, the B-17 eventually became the greatest bomber of the war - dropping more bombs than any other aircraft.

This super scale PRE-Flight model of the B-17G has moveable control surfaces and retractable landing gear, as well as bomber and pilot views.

This model is for PRE-Flight version 2.10 and higher.

  • New Model for free download - Boeing B-52 Stratofortress.
The "Stratofortress" or BUFF (Big Ugly Fat Fellow) as its called by the Air Force, first entered operations in 1955 and is projected to become the longest operational aircraft of all time due to the Air Force's intention to keep the B-52 in service until 2040.

Designed to "exceed all expectations" of its initial conception, the BUFF broke many records of endurance, speed and altitude in the first few decades of its life. Its ultra-high reliability has earned it an 80% mission-capable rate - the highest of any aircraft on record.

This super scale PRE-Flight model of the B-52 has moveable control surfaces and unique retractable landing gear, which, like the original's, can pivot 20 degrees outward.

This model is for PRE-Flight version 2.10 and higher.

  • New Model for free download - Boeing B-29 Superfortress.
Called "The Plane that Won the War", the Boeing B-29 Superfortress was one of the most advanced bombers of its time - featuring innovations like remote-controlled gun turrets and a fully pressurized cabin. So advanced was its design that it was used long after its first flight in 1942 - it was only retired from service in the 1960s. It was also copied down to the rivets by the Soviet Union and called the Tupolev Tu-4.

The most famous of the 3,970 B-29s that were built is the "Enola Gay", the bomber that delivered the first atomic bomb on August 6, 1945, forever changing the face of warfare.

Long after World War II, the B-29 saw service in the Korean conflict and was used in various duties like in-flight refueling, exprimental aircraft testing, and even as a a flying relay television transmitter (because of its high-altitude capability).

This super scale PRE-Flight model of the B-29 is composed of over 107,000 polygons, and has full moveable control surfaces, retractable landing gear, revolving gun turrets (controlled by the rudder channel), detailed interior visible in the aircraft views, and special reflective paint and markings of "Enola Gay".

This model is for PRE-Flight version 2.10 and higher.

See this web page to download the free model.

  • New Model for free download - Beechcraft Staggerwing.
Regarded by many as "The Most Beautiful Airplane" of all time - certainly the most beautiful biplane, the Beechwood Staggerwing was designed as built from the start in 1932 to be THE premium business executive airplane - much like the Gulfstream executive jets of today.

The Beechcraft Model 17 Staggerwing gets its name from the negative stagger - the lower wing is more forward than the upper wing - which is designed to give the pilot a superior view as well as provide a lower stall speed. Its retractable gear, uncommon at the time, combined with advanced streamlining and a powerful, light engine resulted in a faster, more agile, and longer-ranged aircraft than its contemporaries. Its design was found by many to be ideal for racing as well as for fast, comfortable travel.

The last Staggerwing left the factory in 1949, however, it was widely used around the world for decades longer, many Staggerwings still flying today, lovingly maintained by their owners and still looking very fast and modern despite its age.

This large scale PRE-Flight model of the Staggerwing is composed of over 130,000 polygons, and has full moveable control surfaces, retractable main and wheel landing gears, finely detailed radial engine and even a detailed, cream leather interior. Performance is as would be expected of a muscle biplane.

This model is for PRE-Flight version 2.10 and higher.

See this web page to download the free model.

  • New Model for free download - Focke-Wulf Triebflugel VTOL Fighter.
The Focke-Wulf Triebflugel's tailsitter design coupled with the ramjet-powered rotor made it one of the most unique aircraft ever concieved. It had only reached wind-tunnel testing when the allied forces put an end to its development - no flying prototype was ever built.

Concieved in the final months of World War II, it was thought to have been a solution to the increasing bombing raids by the allies, as well as a response to the lack of flying fields for normal aircraft operation.

The Triebflugel's main propulsion consisted of a single, large-diameter, 3-bladed rotor powered by ramjets positioned at the tip of the blades. Take-off is similar to a helicopter then the craft is nosed over to a normal attitude with the blades providing forward thrust as well as lift.

The theoretical specs are impressive: 3 wingtip ramjets giving it a speed up to Mach 0.9 or about 1000kph; 2 X 30mm cannon and 2 X 20mm cannon on the nose.

Designed primarily as a bomber interceptor, it would take only a few minutes to reach a high enough altitude to engage its target. Little thought seems to have been put into the landing of such an aircraft - with the pilot not seeing much of the landing wheels behind him.

This PRE-Flight model of the Triebflugel has an operating rotor, animated flame at the ramjet exhausts and even "3D" sound coming from the rotating engines. Flying the model is similar to flying a helicopter, up to the point where enough forward speed enables the model to fly more like a conventional aircraft. As in the real thing, landing is exceptionally challenging.

This model is for PRE-Flight version 2.10 and higher.

See this web page to download the free model.

Even fly in mode 1 then send the recording of your flight to mode 2 users! Connect your RC Transmitter to PRE-Flight with an easy-to-build interface (see left for link) or simply use the joystick/keyboard .

PRE-Flight is a fully user-configurable rc flight simulator and aircraft designer in one integrated package. PRE-Flight can be operated by a wide variety of RC transmitters and/or standard PC peripherals like the joystick or keyboard. PRE-Flight's "Physics and Rendering Engine" allows fast and accurate simulation of aircraft from parameters which are fully configurable by the user - down to the 3D shapes and color of the aircraft!

It is this special feature which allows aircraft designers to "build", test and simulate their design prototypes before putting the first parts together or even buying the first components! Critical decisions on powerplant, wing area, dihedral - even paint schemes and tank capacities can all be simulated on PRE-Flight along with anticipated wind conditions and flying field dimensions. CL and CD tables can be included in the flight model to allow accurate flight physics. PRE-Flight's "dynamic parameter" specification files allow user-defined equations and function tables to govern all aspects of the flight model.

Further news and developments will be posted on this website. If you have comments or questions, please feel free to contact me on this link ttransce@bigpond.net.au.
